The heart behind Anchored Motherhood

As a mom of two, I have been there: the blowouts in the car, the concerns about milk and solid feeds, the wondering if my kids (or I) will ever sleep, and simultaneous yearning for freedom while feeling fulfilled and content, knowing this is exactly where I'm supposed to be. Ain't that the ultimate paradox of motherhood?

The idea for Anchored Motherhood came about in 2023, during my second pregnancy. While on maternity leave, a vision formed of starting a project that would help moms find and form connections with another mothers. I contemplated leaving my job and felt convicted to pursue something new.

I gave birth to my firstborn in 2021, at a time when the COVID pandemic was still very much present. As with many families who welcomed a child during those years, the early days, weeks, or months were filled with both joy and hardships. Most social gatherings took place virtually. Visits by friends and family were rare; and Early ON and library programs were close to nonexistent. The only opportunity to leave the home was stroller walks — which were too daunting for me as a first time mom. With nowhere to go and a lack of opportunities to build connection and find community, the first year of motherhood was extremely challenging and lonely. Even if your child wasn't born during the COVID years, many parents (in particular mothers) experience loneliness and isolation. Even now, moms are constantly seeking friendships, belonging, and a village.

For those who are seeking friendship, belonging, and community, I hope that you will find it here. Through mom meet-ups and other events that we aim to host and partake in this summer, I pray that moms can learn more about AM and join us in our mission to connect with, support, and care for one another.

Blessings,

Tian Jia (founder of AM)
